Meeting Barcelona Artist Joana Santamans
We’ve been following the work of painter, illustrator and graphic designer Joana Santamans for a while now. But when we found out that she is our founder Gabby’s neighbour both in Barcelona and in the Emporda we had to meet her in person... ⠀⠀
Born in Barcelona in 1977, Joana grew up in the Catalan countryside before living in metropolitan cities around the world, such as London, New York and San Francisco. She is positive and ambitious and her artwork offers a deep look into the nature that surrounds us and the female figure. She approaches plants and animals almost like a naturalist. She is very intuitive in her colour palette and composition, especially in her use of varied techniques. Her art is restless and constantly evolving through murals, exhibitions in art galleries, decorative pieces or editorials.⠀⠀
We are completely in love with her large scale oil paintings..
Our full studio tour with Joana is coming soon, but in the meantime here is a mini Q&A on some of her favourite places and tips…
