Viani’s Hidden Artist Studio in Barcelona
This month TAB founder Gabby spent time with one of our most coveted artists, Viani at his studio in Barcelona. Hidden behind a tattoo parlour (his girlfriend is a world-famous tattoo artist), the studio feels like entering another world.
Originally Spanish / Italian, Viani was raised in Venezuela in a climate of real political crisis. Settling in Barcelona in 2002, he developed his style as a form of freedom of expression - a liberating outburst after years of oppression. Through his art, Viani expresses things that were once censored - leading to the expressive and free aesthetic he is known for (but always deeply thought out and considered).
Themes of love and anger are presented through the binary use of black and white (and very occasionally a rich, electric blue). This bold monochrome aesthetic is reflected in the artist’s own personal style - deliberately wearing only black or white.
Despite the vigorous splashes of paint and textures of his abstract impressionism, Viani’s studio is pristine and so organised. A testament to the methodical and meticulous approach to his work, with very deliberate brush strokes and mark making.
Having been exhibited internationally, Viani pieces are held in private collections around the world. Much of his work is currently sent to London and the US, but Barcelona and Europe more widely are catching on. Viani’s work is quintessentially Barcelona - everything including his canvases and wooden frames are all locally sourced.
We showcased several of his pieces at our recent Pop-Up Event in the city, and predict that Viani is one of the foremost contemporary artists to watch in 2021 and an artist to seriously invest in, as his career continues to grow in a big way.
We are deeply excited to announce that Viani will be joining us at Art Madrid 2021, where we are hosting our own concept booth! Reserve your tickets for the event here.
If you’d like to learn more about Viani’s work or are interested in starting (or growing) your art collection, please get in touch! We would love to collaborate and support you in your art journey.
