Gastón Lisak
Barcelona, Spain, 1989
Gastón Lisak is a young, must-follow conceptual artist and professor based in Barcelona, making his way into the national and international art scene with terrific ready-made sculptures, which marry elegant and nostalgic neoclassical sculptures with neon-coloured plastic vinyls.
Drawing from Italian Arte Povera movement and the work of Pistoletto, his visual research is combined with a strong interest in Material Anthropology and a truly positive approach to life: Gastón is one of the founders of Random Happiness, a movement that believes in happiness as a revolutionary tool to make the world a better place for all!

About The Artist:
In his Sacred Plastic series, which started with a site-specific project at the Academia di Belle Arti di Palermo, plastic acquires a central importance, as a controversial material that is both fascinating and hurtful. With his colourful and shiny vinyls, Gastón Lisak involves found objects - from big neoclassical busts, to figurative statuettes and vintage souvenirs - cultural paraphernalia which he obsessively collects every day from flea markets. Through this project, in which life and beauty is immortalised by an asphyxiating plastic layer, he critically explores the way we interact with objects, beliefs and identity.
Upon graduation, Gastón was awarded a grant at F A B R I C A, the research centre of Benetton, an environment in which he has refined his skills in visual communication through art.
Lisak is also a teacher at Elisava, Design University in Barcelona, leading workshops in the field of Art Thinking, collective creation, and co-creation. His work has been exhibited at Tate Modern (UK), Gallery Bensimon Paris, Beijing Design Week, Times Square (NewYork), Salone del Mobile (Milan), The Aram Gallery, CCCB, ILIVE TOMORROW Gallery Hong Kong and MNAC, Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya among others. He has been invited to talk in places such as LaSALLE University (Jakarta), Tate Modern, Tilburg University (Holland), Design Museum of Barcelona or WebVisions at Instituto Europeo di Design.
