How to Commission a Bespoke Artwork with The Art Büro
Have you ever fallen in love with an artist or specific artwork just to find out its no longer available, there is a waiting list or simply the pieces are not quite the right size for the spot you had envisioned ?
We pride ourselves on making the impossible possible and specialise in dreaming up bespoke, commissioned artworks matching our clients' spaces and desires perfectly.
A one-of-a-kind commissioned artwork is one of the most special and unique investments and we pride ourselves on offering this service to our clients, thanks to the special relationships we have built with talented artists.
Our role as art advisors in the process is to understand your tastes, requirements and vision perfectly. We provide a seamless experience, from honing the initial concept and collaborating with the artist, to managing the full process until final delivery and installation, when the work is revealed (always an exciting and emotional moment)!
Why choose a commission?
Commissioning an artist to create an artwork especially for a space or idea gives you the ultimate flexibility. You might have a particular size or budgetary requirement that does not match up with an existing piece, or maybe you like the idea of having an artwork that is personalised for aesthetic or sentimental reasons. As well as being meaningful, a tailored commission is a wise investment, telling a unique story.
commissioning an artist
You may already love the work of an artist, or maybe we introduce you to an artist we know you will appreciate based on your tastes and criteria. The Art Büro’s extensive network of artists and galleries means we are perfectly positioned to suggest the ideal talent to execute artworks across any medium (we can even organise private artist studio visits). To confirm the commission, the client pays 50% of the total price up front (and the remaining 50% upon receipt of the work).
For a recent client we proposed and commissioned a large-scale piece by visual artist Myriam Jímenez Huertas known for her impressive textured works made using thin layers of porcelain and stoneware.
Crafting the vision
Once the artist has been chosen, we look through existing works together, discussing what elements of the style you like best, required dimensions and any other important criteria such as colours or inspiration.
Work in Progress
When the overall concept, size and style are agreed, the artist works their magic! We keep you fully up to date throughout production, with a timeline and progress pictures (although some clients prefer to keep it a surprise until the final reveal). In this case, Myriam generously shared photos of her process from start to finish.
The moment of truth
Installation day is one of our favourite parts of what we do! Nothing beats the special moment a brand new completely unique work is unveiled in its new home for the first time!
Joyful Client Feedback:
We both felt so excited and emotional during the process! First, excited to see all of the options and curious whether the Art Büro team had understood what we were looking for? Then excitement and enthusiasm meeting artists, being introduced by The Art Büro to a world that we want to learn more about.
Seeing the artwork taking shape was very emotional (receiving photos of the process was a really cool extra touch), then of course seeing it hanging on the wall of our home! We love it! - Laura, TAB Client May 2022
Other examples of recently commissioned works include this spectacular wall sculpture by Eduardo Perez Cabrero and an impressive circular piece by Mari Ito (below).
“Work in Progress”
There is nothing like working hand in hand with an esteemed artist, on a unique commission created just for you, becoming part of the artist’s oeuvre. With a commission you are not only the client but the inspiration for a piece - you may even end up on the pages of art history books!
